A look back… Thank you 2011

2011 has been by far my best year for photography. I wanted to get it down in writing what I have gotten to experience and capture this past year!

First and for most I have gotten to photograph some of the best clients ever! I didn’t take on too many weddings this past year because of our baby boy Jack being born. I left more time for family time.

One of the biggest accomplishments was a 10′ print of mine hanging in Hector International Airport!

Some of the events I have shot in the past year:

Runners heading down Broadway

Fargo Marathon… This year it was actually quite nice out for the runners. It wasn’t raining and it wasn’t blazing hot. It was nice to see a lot of familiar faces running in the event as well that I didn’t know were running. I enjoy shooting this event every year for the FM CVB because its uplifting to see the pure happiness of the runners in the beginning and then when they come around towards the finish line most of them still have that happiness although it turns into more of a determination. Like I have always said… emotion is one of the greatest things a photographer can capture.

Shot from the catwalk for the birdseye view

Curling National Championships… Another high level sporting event held at the Scheels Arena. Best of the best curlers in our nation battling it out for a spot for the championship and spots on Team USA.

Nelly in Concert

Blizzard Tour… I got to be up front and center while photographing Cali Swag District, 3oh3!, and Nelly! What more can I say?

I got to photograph the Pyrotechnics Guild finale, then shoot a wedding the next day, and then photograph the Fargo Airsho on Sunday! Made for quite a long weekend but truly a memorable one!

San Diego wedding, Couple lit with 3 iPhones

One of the coolest experiences I had this past year was being invited to photograph a wedding in San Diego, CA. The wedding was held on a boat and the ceremony took place in the San Diego bay surrounded by our nation’s finest battleships. The wedding was amazing and the photos I came home with from that trip are going to be hard to match!

Energy Team // France // America's Cup 45 2011

While out in San Diego, CA I was asked to photograph a few pictures for Team Energy of France for the America’s Cup. Truly an honor to get behind the scenes and up close and personal with the team and their 45ft Catamaran.

My year usually always ends with the Fargo Force and who can blame me… by far one of the best things I have the privilege to shoot. Photographing these hockey players on their way to Division I college hockey and possibly the NHL is great but getting to know the players is probably the coolest part. They may be under 21 but are by far the most mature of their age… some of them ;)

oh yeah… One of the best things I have gotten to photograph. Jack! Our new baby boy born on July 17th, 2011.

Sorry to say I can’t share all of my experiences as this would be one very lengthy post but had to give you something to read about and look at while 2011 says goodbye. Each year I strive to find new things to shoot and more things to shoot. Strive to be different. How else can an artist make it in todays competitive arena? Steve Jobs said, “Stay hungry, stay foolish.” ┬áTo me that means the world… Stay hungry means make sure you keep striving to get better and climb that ladder of success and reach your goals. Stay foolish, always remember that there is more to learn out there… with photography one can never know enough.

Happy New Years!

Goodbye 2011, we had some great times but its time for 2012!

M.
